В статье представлен анализ исторических предпосылок возникновения и современных данных о миопатиях грудных и бедренных мышц бройлеров — «белой полосатости» (WS), «деревянной грудки» (WB) и «мяса-спагетти» (SM). Показано, что интенсивная селекция на высокую скорость роста и увеличение массы грудных мышц, начавшаяся с проекта «Цыплёнок будущего» (1945 г.), привела к беспрецедентному росту продуктивности: за 50 лет живая масса бройлеров в 42 дня увеличивалась на 25–50 г ежегодно, а конверсия корма улучшилась на 2–3 пункта в год. К 2012–2014 годам селекционный успех обернулся массовым распространением миопатий, поражающих до 79–80% поголовья коммерческих кроссов. На основе обобщения литературных данных детально охарактеризованы гистологические и морфометрические изменения при различных формах миопатии: увеличение площади поперечного сечения мышечных волокон (CSA), фиброз, липидоз, воспалительная инфильтрация, а также изменение химического состава мяса. С учётом высокой зависимости российского птицеводства от импортного племенного материала, обоснована необходимость включения в селекционные программы генетических маркеров гистологических и морфометрических характеристик, что позволит вести отбор на устойчивость к миопатиям без снижения продуктивности.
