Основная причина снижения показателей воспроизводства у высокопродуктивных животных заключается в нарушении эндокринной регуляции функции яичников. Ангиотензин II (АнгII) и его рецепторы, как составляющие ренин-ангиотензиновой системы (РАС), в яичниках млекопитающих участвуют в регуляции синтеза и секреции простагландинов и эстрогенов, роста фолликулов, овуляции и атрезии. Основные разделы обзора: РАС в организме млекопитающих, локальная яичниковая РАС у человека и других видов млекопитающих, локальная яичниковая РАС у коров, рецепторы РАС. Как правило, эффективность созревания ооцитов in vitro ниже, чем in vivo. Важно идентифицировать факторы, лежащие в основе этого факта, чтобы можно было включать их в системы in vitro. Было показано, что уровень АнгII в фолликулярной жидкости человека коррелирует с относительной долей созревших ооцитов, собранных после стимуляции яичников для оплодотворения in vitro. Установлено, что у свиней АнгII стимулирует созревание ооцитов in vitro из малых и средних фолликулов; он не оказывал влияния на ядерное созревание ооцитов крупного рогатого скота (КРС) при культивировании in vitro ооцит-кумулюсных комплексов (ОКК) в отсутствие фолликулярных клеток, но в присутствии текальных клеток аннулировал ингибирующее действие этих клеток.
