ABSTRACT. Use of triacetate cellulose hollow fibers as a vitrification carrier is a perspective modification of the method to preserve groups of mammalian oocytes and in vitro produced (IVP) embryos. Hollow fiber vitrification allows significant simplification and standardization of vitrification/warming procedures. In the current work, hollow fiber carrier was compared to two open-type vitrificatin carriers: Cryotop and hemi-straw. Experiments were conducted using seven-day-old IVP bovine blastocysts and expanded blastocysts. At 24 hours past warming, survival level of the embryos vitrified using hollow fibers (84%, P<0.05) was significantly lower than in other experimental groups (97% using Cryotop and 94.3% using hemi-straw) and in the control group (100%). However, hatching rates in the hollow fiber group were comparable to those from other groups throughout culture period and the most drastic drop in viability was observed in the hemi-straw group. With the aim to test aptitude of the triacetate cellulosic hollow fibers for cryopresrevation of cloned zona-free embryos, IVP bovine blastocysts and expanded blastocysts without zona pellucida were vitrified in hollow fibers. Viability of vitrified embryos without zona pellucida 24 hours post warming (84.7%) was comparable to those of intact vitrified embryos. However, the average number of cells with damaged membrane was higher in zona-free embryos.
