ABSTRACT. On the basis of analysis of the literature data and own studies, the authors proved the concept of an integrated approach to the producing of harmless animal products in environmentally disadvantaged areas through the application of entero-sorbents, the minimizing of residual amounts of pollutants, and normalization of physiological functions. An analysis is made of the following topics: the metabolic mechanisms of hypoxia in the light of the concept of the generation of reactive oxygen forms and their neutralization; the value of selenium under poisoning with pollutants; epigenetic factors controlling defense functions. Set of reactions to the action of damaging factors, whatever their nature, − ecotoxicants, ionizing radiation, factors associated with aging, etc., should be classified as a systemic syndrome. The main pathogenic factor under impact of toxicants is recommended to interpret in terms of the disequilibrium in dynamic balance between the generation of pro-oxidants and the power of reestablishing systems. For such an interpretation, a detailed examination of all major components of the process is required, acting at long time intervals, with taking into account the special features of different types of cells. The use of sorbents does not solve all problems associated with radio-nuclides pollution; the panel of methods to prevent and protect the action of chronic exposure to incorporated irradiation sources of medium and low power, made and tested in the field of medical radiobiology, is limited and it is difficult to apply these methods for productive animals. The techniques have to be developed aimed to complex targeted control of metabolic processes, including novel adaptogenic agents, antioxidants, antihypoxants, immune-modulators, specific sorbents, synthetic peptides and other pharmacologically active compounds.
