ABSTRACT. The study was aimed to modify a technique for measuring surface tension (ST) by the maximum bubble pressure method for biological liquids, particularly, for blood serum. The theoretical principles of the method, the main characteristics of tensiometer BPA-1P, and examples of its application for the determination of ST in biological liquids are summarized. Parameters of ST of serum in horses and cattle of different age are indicated, the recommendations are given for the optimum parameters for storage of samples (refreezing etc.) and for the measuring of ST. The values of ST may vary depending on the biochemical composition of blood serum and physiological state of the animal. On the authors’s opinion, a large-scale study of biological liquids in different breeds of farm animals will allow to create an electronic database of "reference" values of ST for diagnostic and technological applications.
