ABSTRACT. The article provides an overview of modern technologies of making hay from legumes and shows the efficiency of its use in the diet for high producing dairy cows. To increase the milk yield of cows, it is necessary to increase the energy and protein value of diets. The using of high levels of concentrates for this purpose reduces the digestibility of forage, elevates the risk of breakdown of digestion processes and reproduction functions. The basis of the diet for cows should be the high quality roughage, in which the proportion of hay, as most physiological type of feed for ruminants, should be up to 50% of diet’s nutritive value. Use in dairy cows feeding of hay from legumes with concentration of metabolizable energy 10.9 MJ and crude protein 15-17% can significantly increase their milk performance and longevity. Biologically, the most effective technology is making crushed hay with forced ventilation. At the high prices of energy resources, it is recommended technique of making long-stamp hay from legumes in rolls, followed by winding by polymer film.
