ABSTRACT. The aim of the work was to evaluate the level of intracellular Ca2+ in peripheral lymphocytes and blood platelets in cows after external action of γ-radiation. Experiments were conducted on 29 Black-and White cows, divided into three groups, control (group I, n=9) and two treatment groups, which were exposed to total external action of γ-radiation from 137Cs with gamma rays energy 0.67 MeV at a dose 1 Gr/h; in the half-lethal dose (LD50/30) 3.5 Gr (group II) and lethal (LD100/30) 6 Gr (group III). The animals in group II developed acute radiation disease of moderate severity, and those in group III had severe degree desease. The development of the radiation injury in animals was accompanied by disturbances in calcium homeostasis and accumulation of intracellular Ca2+ in lymphocytes in all periods of radiation pathology. With increase in the dose of γ-radiation, there were recorded higher values of intracellular Ca2+ in lymphocytes, at semi-lethal dose by 1.4-2.0 times, at lethal dose by 2.0-4.0 times. The Ca2+ contents of platelets and blood plasma in irradiated animals were maintained at the level of control over the entire study period. The data obtained suggest that total external action of γ-radiation at semi-lethal and lethal dose can cause a change of the system of Ca2+-dependent regulation of cellular processes in lymphocytes.
