ABSTRACT. The trial was conducted on 500 broiler chickens, which at the age 1 day were divided into 5 groups, fed for 47 days with a basal diet supplemented by iron in the form of iron sulfate (II), and by vitamin A - retinol acetate. The control group did not receive iron supplements; 1 kg of feed contained 7000 IU of vitamin A, 10 mg of iron. Four groups received iron at amounts 100 mg/kg feed and different amounts of vitamin A, thousands IU/kg feed: 0 (group I), 25 (group II), 50 (group III), 100 (group IV), 150 (group V). The bird was slaughtered at 1, 7, 28 and 47 days. The values of daily LWG in groups I-V were 41.8, 35.8, 33.3, 34.3, 36.9 g/day. With increase in the level of vitamin A in the diet from 0 to 150 thousands IU/kg feed, there was indicated a significant (P<0.01) increase in the activity of catalase and level of lipid peroxidation products in the liver at the age of 7 and 47 days. The correlation was revealed between the level of MDA and catalase activity (r = 0,47, P<0.05) and between MDA and the concentration of diene conjugates (r = 0,58, P<0.01) in the liver. Blood level of thyroid hormones was reduced in chicks of group IV by 55-81% vs control, while the ratio T4/T3 was increased 1.5 times. The increase in the iron concentration in the diet reduced the concentration of copper in the liver, spleen and heart of chickens. With increase of vitamin A in the diet, iron concentration decreased from III to V groups, although from I to III groups it increased. Thus, the increase in vitamin A level in the diet of broiler chickens, on the background of elevated levels of iron, has an impact on lipid peroxidation and on the distribution of trace elements in the body, especially in the first decade of the age, accompanied by the changes in the regulatory function of the thyroid gland.
