The batch of carps Cyprinus carpio L. with mean body weight 9.2 g was kept in aquarium at temperature 16-18ºС. After obtaining material from 5 intact fishes, 55 individuals were injected i/p by 0.1 ml of serotonin hydrochloride on the Ringer solution for cold blood animals, at the dose 10 μg/g of body weight; 55 fishes were injected by the equal amount of Ringer solution. At 0.5, 1, 3, 5, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 144 and 168 hours after injection, by 5 fishes at a time from treatment and control groups were slaughtered and preparations were made for the measurements of the proteolytic (PA) and amylolytic (AA) activity of intestinal mucosa. At 1 hour after serotonin injection, the level of PA and AA in the intestinal mucosa significantly decreased (P<0.01 and 0.05 respectively) as compared with intact fish and was so reduced within 1-14 hours after injection. After 48 hours after serotonin administration, the levels of РА and AA were recovered up to control values; at the following times, the oscillating changes were indicated in the enzymatic activities. The differences between treatment and control groups by PA level were lesser expressed in comparison with that of AA level. The data testify the participation ofserotonin in the control of PA and AA and, consequently, in the processes of digestion in carp.
