ABSTRACT. The trial was conducted on 30 fattening bulls with an average live weight of 342 kg, 10 animals each, fed basic diet (BD, group 1, control) or BD with the addition of protein concentrate (PC) in the amount of 1 (group II) and 1 5 g/kg body weight (group III). PC is obtained from poultry and fish offal and has high content of low-degradable protein. In groups II and III, the total nitrogen in rumen content was reduced by 13 and 21% (P<0.01), protein by 15 and 25% (P<0.01), ammonia by 17 and 23 % (P<0.01), respectively, compared with control. In group III, an increased concentration of VFA and cellulolytic microbial activity (P<0.01) was indicated. In the blood of calves in group III, an increase in total protein content (P<0.05) and a decrease in the level of urea (P<0.05) vs control was indicated. The average LWG in groups II and III increased by 17 and 24% respectively (P<0.05). It is concluded that the addition of PC is appropriate to include in the diet of fattening bulls at the dose of 1.5 g/kg LW.
