ABSTRACT. The purpose was an assessment of oxytocin effect on hemodynamics and intra udder pressure (IUP) and the study of the mechanism of milk output in cows. Two experiments were carried out on 5 cows under endotracheal anesthesia. In the first experiment, there was studied the effect of exogenous oxytocin on volume blood flow rate (BFR) and vascular resistance of the udder (VRU), in the second experiment, BFR and IUP were determined as a response to exogenous oxytocin. The simultaneous recording were carried out of blood pressure, BFR in the half of the udder, IUP in ipsilateral lobe in the back half of the udder, and vascular resistance of the udder was calculated. The milk output caused by exogenous oxytocin was accompanied by a two-phase change in BFR and IUP. Persistence of systemic blood pressure when administered oxytocin indicates the local mechanism in changes of blood supply to the udder. Having phases of fast increase and subsequent slow decrease in blood supply in response to exogenous oxytocin indicates a change in vascular resistance through a process of compression and expansion of the alveoli due to exposure of oxytocin for myoepithelial cells. It is assumed that the movement of milk from the alveoli into the lower parts of the udder occurs during the contraction phase of the alveoli to its maximal value. The end of milk output should be considered as the moment of maximum compression of alveoli observed in the second minute after the administration of oxytocin.
