The aim was to study nutrient digestibility in cows using diets with different crude protein level (6.44, 10.7 and 15.4%) when diets were fed as separate feedstuffs or in a form of feed mixture. Three trials were performed on dry Ukrainian Red-and-White cows using 4 periods: period I (14 days), preliminary; period II (10 days), for estimation of apparent nutrient digestibility using separate feedstuffs; period III (7 days), preliminary, using the same diet fed in a form of feed mixture; period IV (10 days), for estimation of apparent nutrient digestibility using feed mixture. At the low level of crude protein (6.44%), the change-over to feeding the feed mixture was accompanied by tendency of decreasing digestibility of crude fiber, crude fat and nitrogen-free extractives, which led to a 6.4% decrease in dietary ME content. At the high level of crude protein in the diet (15.4%), feeding the feed mixture improved the dietary nutrients digestibility, which increased the metabolizable energy level (by 30.7 MJ/day, P<0.01) and concentration (by 23.9%, P<0.01). At the medium level of crude protein in the diet (10.7%), no significant changes in digestibility of nutrients, as affected by the way of feeding, were established.
