ABSTRACT. The trial was conducted on 4 groups of calves from 30 d age up to 4 mo, 10 goals in each fed concentrate-starter of different composition: 25% of sunflower meal (group 1, control), 12.5% of sunflower meal and 10% of dry wheaten distillers grains (DDGS) (group II), 20% DDGS (group III or 20% DDGS with supplement of synbiotic preparation "Rumistart" at amount of 10 kg/t (group IV) (mannanoligosaccharides, 1% by weight; Ruminococcus albus, 1×107 CFU/g, Bacillus subtilis, 1×107 CFU/g, Lactobacillus acidophilus, 1×107 CFU/g; pectinlyase, 1.5 ×106 U/kg, amylase, 2.25×105 U/kg, β-glucanase, 7.5×104 U/kg, cellulase, 4.5×104 U/kg). The lowest average LWG gain was obtained in group III (Р<0.05 vs groups I and IV). In groups II and IV, digestibility coefficient of dry and organic matter was higher by 2-4; that of protein and fiber by 1-3 and 3-7% respectively vs group III. The total rumen content of VFA in groups II and IV was higher by 15 and 13% respectively vs group III indicating a more intensive fermentation of carbohydrates. In the feces of calves in treatment groups, the marked increase in the amount of bifidobacilli and lactobacilli was indicated and a decrease in the amount of E. coli, salmonella and staphylococcus. The levels of glucose, AST activity and natural resistance in group IV were higher (P<0.05) compared with control. The data obtained suggest that for calves at the age period from 1 up to 4 mo, it may be recommended the use of concentrate-starter contained 20% DDGS together with supplement of synbiotic.
