ABSTRACT. The most effective buffer mixture and preparation of yeast Saccharomyces, previously selected in laboratory studies in vitro, were used in the experiment carried out on 30 Holmogor holsteinized cows at 59 d of lactation with an average LW 626 kg and the initial milk yield 36 kg. Control group received basic high concentrate ration (BR), group II fed BR with supplement of 100 g of carbonate buffer mixture, group II – BR + 10 g of yeast preparation for 60 days. In the control group at 3 hour after morning feeding, there were indicated pH values in rumen fluid close to the critical value, high VFA, acetate propionate lowest ratio (2.3), a reduced level of ciliates against the background of normal cellulolytic activity. Feeding supplements helped to raise the pH, buffer capacity, the number of ciliates, and the molar fraction of acetate by reducing the proportion of propionate and butyrate. On the 15th and 45th day of the trial, in group II the milk yield was higher vs control by 11 and 8.7% in group III by 9.5 and 6.6% respectively. Production of milk fat on 45th day of the experiment was significantly higher vs control (P<0.05). Concluded that the risk of depression of milk fat production in cows fed high concentrate diets can be reduced by using special buffer mixture, which helps to maintain high milk production and animal health.
