Efficacy of milk production depends on many factors, and to reveal empirically the basic quantitative relationships in the productive process on the level of stud is a hard task. The aim of the study was to develop a model of energy balance in the system of milk production taking into account many factors, including live weight of mature animal, level of nutrition during period of growth, energy inputs for growth, milk formation and maintenance, the age of first calving, inter-calving interval, age dynamics of 305-d milk yield, frequency distribution of cows over the length of productive life, the ratio of the value of 1 MJ of feed and milk. The data of breeding farms and results of physiological investigations were used in the calculations. There was indicated that the most sustainable trait of the age dynamics of cows culling is a culling probability over current lactation. The most income accumulated over 10 years per 1 cattle stall is delivered in groups with length of productive life of 5 lactations. As an additional trait for the increase in the mean length of productive life, the authors recommend the percent of cows culled over first lactations.
